In 1987, Phyllis Hyman recorded "Black and Blue" as a duet with Barry Manilow on his 1987 Swing Street Arista album. The handbag genius Kate Spade took her own life on June 5. Phyllis was 45 years old at the time of death. At Gamble-Huff's Philadelphia International label, her first release earned her a Gold album and a #1 single. Creed collaborated with fellow Pennsylvania native Hymanon many of her songs, most notably Old Friend.
